Claudia's Confections

Welcome to Claudia's Confections! I am an amateur cake-maker and foodie working out of my home in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Creating cakes and desserts is one of my many passions and this website is dedicated to my most successful past creations. I have been baking all my life but have only seriously delved into formal and wedding cakes in the past two years.

My approach to dessert and cake-making is to keep it looking and tasting simple, beautiful, and elegant. Taste is my primary concern. Any confection, particularly a wedding cake, is meant to be eaten and should taste unforgettable; I've heard too many stories of stunning cakes that unfortunately tasted bland and boring. Visual appeal is my secondary concern - the outer layer should be a reflection of the inner deliciousness!

Cakes and desserts can celebrate any occasion - weddings, showers, grand openings, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, house-warmings, reunions... the possibilities are endless! You can indulge your sweet tooth at any of life's celebratory moments!

My first cupcake wedding cake! This wedding took place in a barn which set off the Fall colours beautifully.

Pumpkin spice cupcakes with cinnamon buttercream and chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream.

Only for a very special bunch of grade sixes would I make I cake like this! Every one of their names encircles the tiers.

Those grade sixes really were lucky to have me as a teacher. Treats for Valentine's Day - incredible yellow butter cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting.

It was a pleasure to make this cute cake for a young girl's Confirmation - May 2010.

Ta da! Here it is... Jon's and my wedding cake for our August 2009 wedding. It was made in Edmonton, transported to Jasper, assembled by our bridesmaids, and thoroughly enjoyed by our 70 guests. Certainly a memorable cake!

This July 2009 wedding cake had to be gluten-free, which was a new challenge for me. I drew inspiration from the bride's bouquet, as I usually do!

This wedding cake turned out to be one of my more complicated designs but also one of the prettiest. The butterflies are made entirely of royal icing and had to be made one step at a time over 3 days!

A spring-themed wedding cake in May 2009. This cake is the embodiment of my style: simple, striking, and elegant. I'm really pleased with how the colours came together!

Made for a Star Wars-themed birthday party, this cake was truly a collaboration between Jon and I! I made the spherical cake and decorated it and Jon added the "pew pew" lasers which actually lit up and flickered! I was given total free reign with this cake so I decided to go overboard with my favourite shape - the circle. Then I picked some Spring colours and had fun with it!

My first ultra-whimsical cake, created for a surprise birthday gift. I tried to incorporate as many colours and varied designs as I could and the result was pretty eye-catching! The diamonds are my favourite part.

The birthday girl was tickled pink at the fun appearance of this cake. The height of the feather was just perfect.

I love the idea of using jewellery on a cake. This particular piece had special meaning for the couple.

A moist pumpkin spice cake with cinnamon buttercream just looks and tastes like Fall! The rolled wafer cookies on the sides were an extra treat. I took this cake to work and shared it with some very grateful colleagues!

This is a cake that was picked up and taken to Wainwright for an August wedding. Once the cake was onsite they topped it with monograms and flowers.

June 2008 - a five-tier monstrosity! I am very proud of this creation - 18 hours of work paid off!
